WHAT-EV-ERRRR

A while back (and we're talking a long time ago), I wrote a short diatribe about the way political winds were blowing (here). It wasn't a rant, really... I was just expressing my frustration with Neo-Cons and their evil talking-head pundits.

This was almost three (count 'em, three) years ago. I've since learned to just ignore blowhards like Glen Beck and Ann Coulter and go about my business.

But someone had to come along and comment on that old post:

OK, so first of all, I enabled anonymous comments on this blog to allow people who don't have G-mail (or other access granting accounts) the option to give some feedback... not so right-wing, KKK nut-jobs could have a go at me. And to top it all off... I totally don't understand what it is they are trying to say!

To the grade-A moron who just had to comment, but didn't have the balls to sign their name: I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK ANYWAY. You obviously don't have the courage (or brains) to back up your convictions, so you can just rot in hell with President Bush, VP Cheney and all the other Republicunts!

WHO WOULD'VE GUESSED?

According to The Los Angeles Times, Bristol Palin and her fiance called off their impending nuptials. Um... this one's almost too easy, kids.

GONNA MISS THIS...

Here are some (more) classics Bushisms:

"I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family."

"I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully."

"I will have a foreign-handed foreign policy."

"They misunderestimaed me."

SAY WHAAAAT???

The news is abuzz with a horrible story: The Tennessee Republican Party Chairman, a candidate for RNC Chairman, sent out a "Holiday CD" featuring a song called Barack The Magic Negro. This is a video of the song

I have a few thoughts, after hearing this song:

1. Out-of-touch antics like this are why you lost the election, Republicans.
2. Racism is racism. There's no defending it (see article here)
3. As angry as I am about the whole Inauguration debacle, I'm not OK with garbage like this

Only in America!

GOD BLESS AMERICA

The United States (or at least the current administration) has decided NOT to sign the United Nations Resolution decriminalizing homosexuality.

*sigh*

(STILL) NOT MY PRESIDENT

OK, in the interest of full disclosure, I did NOT vote for Obama. (I didn't vote for McCain, either. And yes, I voted.)

I'm outraged by Obama's decision to allow Rick Warren give the invocation at his inauguration. Could you pick a more homophobic, backwards man to give the invocation? Sure - they're out there. But why pick one at all? There are plenty of popular, Christian pastors out there that could have given the invocation... why pick this one?

I guess we know where Obama's loyalties are, and who his friends are...

I thought I would get a break from the slogan I've had for the past eight years: "He's not my president!" But I guess not.

WELL, IT'S ABOUT TIME

It took an Iraqi to give Bush the respect he deserves:

The American public should have given him the boot, four years ago, but I guess we'll have to settle for a pair of shoes...

GOD BLESS JOHN STEWART

I watched The Daily Show last night, and Governor Mike Huckabee was the guest. The talk eventually turned to gay marriage... and John Stewart went to town.

Stewart was respectful, polite and (as usual) funny. Huckabee made the argument that homosexuality, as a lifestyle, was a "choice." Stewart conceded the point, asking Huckabee to define the point at which he "chose to be straight."

Huckabee, in the book he was hawking on the show, said that the pro-choice movement was the "most shameful" social movements in our history. Stewart responded by saying the anti-gay marriage was a close second.

When Hucakbee said that if gay marriage was a right, gays made a poor case for their right to be included. Stewart responded by saying it was pathetic that gays had to even make a case that they deserved equal rights.

God, I love that John Stewart,

A SMALL VICTORY...

The Los Angeles Times announced today, Bill O'Reilly will no longer host and produce his radio program.

This is a first, small victory for humanity.

PATRIOTIC CURVEBALL

Well, I didn't think she'd take the job, but here we are... and I didn't think she'd take the job, not just because it's been 150 years since someone serving as Sec. of State moved on to president. (Although, it used to happen a lot more often back then.)

It just struck me as a move backwards from Senator, and an odd move, considering the way Obama dogged her foreign policy experience just six months ago.

But all bets are off when it comes to patriotism, and when you're called to serve, you're called to serve.

She's still my girl!

GAME ON! Round 2

California's highest court announced yesterday it will hear multiple legal challenges to Prop 8.

Now... this is gonna get interesting.

STILL... NO... WORDS...

I've been walking around all morning, in a kind of cloud... disbelief, anger and grief wash over me. (We also lost a family member yesterday, so you can imagine how extra-emotional I am right now.)

I keep wondering... how?

How could a state that was the first to send two women to the senate do this?

How could the same voters who put the first black man in the White House return this verdict?

People keep saying to hold out hope - that the absentee ballots haven't been counted yet, and Prop 8 passed with a narrow margin. But how can I find hope in a world where this could even happen in the first place?

YEAH, BUT...

there's a great deal of celebrating going on in America right now...

Celebrating that took place after California's electoral votes put Obama over the 270 mark and won him the election...

But with all the cheering and yelling, nobody noticed...

PROP 8 PASSED.

I guess we're ready for a black president, but gays have to sit at the back of the bus.

ELECTION DAY QUANDARY

I went to the polls this morning (insert stripper joke here). I went in around 8:30 am (PST). While the joint was certainly jumping, there wasn't a line. In fact, I walked in, signed in and voted, all pretty quickly.

Watching the news (lunchtime here on the west coast), there were stories about people waiting for hours to vote all over the country.

But here in California — one of the most populous states in the unions, with a whopping 55 electoral votes at stake today — seems to be whirring away like clockwork...

but it is early.

FINAL TALLY

According to local news reports, the fight over California Ballot Initiative 8 is the most expensive campaign of its kind ever waged.

The final tally, for both sides? Over $73 million.

YET ANOTHER REASON...

CNN - like many cable news networks - broadcast a report on voter fraud and irregularities. According to their data, one state leads the way with the lowest number of reported cases of fraud, irregularities and voter machine malfunctions: California.

Yet another great reason to live in the Golden State.

THE TIDE CONTINUES TO TURN

According to the Los Angeles Times, Apple Inc. donated $100,000 to the No On 8 campaign in California. "We strongly believe that a person's fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation," the company said in a statement, Friday.

The Cupertino-based tech giant joined Google, Qualcomm and Pacific Gas & Electric when it came out publicly (no pun intended) against the California Ballot Initiative.

I knew there was a reason I like Apple so much...
